Interested in becoming an MCSE?

The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer credential is the premier certification for professionals who analyze the business requirements and design and implement the infrastructure for business solutions based on the Windows® 2000 platform and Microsoft server software. Implementation responsibilities include installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network systems.

The MCSE Certification is Appropriate for:

Systems engineers

Technical support engineers

Systems analysts

Network analysts

Technical consultants

According to Microsoft, an MCSE candidate should have at least one year of experience implementing and administering a network operating system.  In addition, an MCSE candidate should have experience in the following areas:

Implementing and administering a desktop operating system.

Implementing and administering a network operating system.

Designing a network infrastructure.

A+ certification, or equivalent knowledge and skills.

Network+ certification, or equivalent knowledge and skills.

Proficiency using the Windows interface to locate, create, and manipulate folders and files and to configure the desktop environment

General knowledge of computer hardware components, including memory, hard disks, and central processing units

General knowledge of networking concepts, including network operating system, server-client relationship, and local area network (LAN)

Keyboarding at 35 wpm.

How can you get there from here?

RCC can help you acquire many of the skills needed through coursework offered. Most students find success by starting with entry-level computer certifications and progressing towards the MCSE certification. However, students currently working in the field may find they have the required skills and can select a different starting point. RCC MCSE instructors can assist you in determining the best starting point.
