The following descriptions outline the Microsoft certifications. A series of exams applies to each certification. Refer to the exam chart on the reverse side to map out your plan to a successful future.


 

The Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certification enables you to establish industry recognition of your technical proficiency and expertise, and build a foundation for other Microsoft certifications.
IT professionals who have the skills to successfully implement a Microsoft product or technology as part of a business solution in an organization.
Hands-on experience with the product or technology is necessary to pass an exam.
One Microsoft certification exam.
 
The Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) credential recognizes individuals who have demonstrated the skills to enter the IT industry as a support desk technician in a Windows® desktop environment. Whether you are a career-entrant or a current support technician, you can readily pursue MCDST certification as an important step in advancing your career as an IT professional.

 

IT career entrants looking to acquire baseline skills as well as current support desk technicians who are interested in proving their Windows Desktop Operating System knowledge through training and certification.

MCDST is an entry-level certification.
Two core exams are required.
The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) credential recognizes IT professionals who implement, manage, and maintain network and system environments based on the Microsoft Windows Server operating system.

An MCSA candidate should have sufficient hands-on experience with:
Implementing, managing, and maintaining a desktop operating system
Implementing, managing, and maintaining a network operating system
Managing and maintaining a network infrastructure
Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 track: Three core exams and one elective exam are required.
The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator: Messaging (MCSA: Messaging) credential identifies systems administrators who demonstrate deep, role-based expertise in the management of a Microsoft Exchange Server infrastructure on the Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 operating system.
 
Experienced systems administrators who are responsible for implementing, managing, and maintaining messaging on Exchange Server on Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003.

MCSA: Security candidates should have at least one year of experience in administering an Exchange Server infrastructure.
Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 track: Three core exams and one messaging specialization exam are required.
The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator: Security (MCSA: Security) credential identifies systems administrators who demonstrate deep, role-based security skills on the Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 operating system.
 
Experienced systems administrators who are responsible for managing, maintaining, and implementing security on Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 and as part of a secure computing environment.

MCSA: Security candidates should have at least one year of experience in a security-focused job role.
Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 track: Three core exams and two security specialization exams are required.
The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) credential is the premier credential for professionals who can successfully design, plan, and implement a network infrastructure, Active Directory–based infrastructure, and client deployment on the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 platform. They also perform maintenance at a high level for a medium- to large-sized Windows Server 2003–based environment.
 
IT professionals who analyze the business requirements and design, plan, and implement the infrastructure for business solutions based on the Microsoft Windows Server System™ integrated server software.

MCSE candidates should have at least one year of experience planning, implementing, and analyzing business solutions with Microsoft products and technologies.
Windows 2000 track: Five core exams and two elective exams
are required.

Windows Server 2003 track: Six core exams and one elective exam
are required.
The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer: Messaging (MCSE: Messaging) credential identifies systems engineers who demonstrate deep, role-based expertise
in the management of a Microsoft Exchange Server infrastructure on the Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 operating system.
 
Experienced systems engineers who are responsible for designing, planning, and implementing an Exchange Server infrastructure on Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003.
